The infamous question all singles love

10 Oct

satc

This month I decided to jump on another blog challenge by one of my favorite people, Mandy Hale. I’m starting a few days late, but I’m going to give it my all to try to write for 30 days.

For the first post we have to answer the question that everyone loves “And why are YOU still single?”

Hmmm…..don’t we, as singles, all just love this question. Come on raise your hand! You know you do. Haha Just kidding. We all know we dread this question every time it’s asked and lately, if I got paid money for every time it was asked, I wouldn’t have to have a part-time job.

I was actually asked this very question just the other day by my Nana (God bless her). It was actually a quite entertaining conversation that went something like this:

Nana: when’s it gonna be your turn?? I’m getting old you know. (as she giggles)

Me: (laughing) yea… Umm I’m not sure. I think he got lost.

Nana: well you better find him. Or at least make it your business to find him. Men need help you know!

Now, at the time, it didn’t bother me as much because it was coming from my 85-year-old Nana, however, when this question arises from people who ask in a condescending way, or from people who ask all the time, it gets very old, real quick.

Not having had a serious boyfriend for a couple of years ( the boys I’ve dated don’t really count because they were boys not men. If they were men, I’d be with one of them right now Lol) it baffles me on why I’m single. I sometimes sit with 2 of my fabulous girlfriends (who are also single) and try to figure out why on Earth are we single.

I have come to conclusion that I am single because I refuse to settle. After many hurtful and “learning” relationships, I have realized that I do deserve a healthy, loving relationship. There will be a man who will move mountains to be with me. He will support me and be proud to call me his woman. He will be the one who will give me my space and let me do my thing because that’s what you do. You compromise, you love, you support, and most of all, you trust.

At the age of 34, did I think I’d be here? No. Maybe, I need to take my Nana’s advice and give him a little help. For all I know he could be right under my nose (or so they say). But until then, I will continue to live my life to the fullest and enjoy all of the wonderful things that I have had come my way, people and experiences included. And hopefully, while I’m on this journey, he will come along and join me on this crazy, wild ride of life.

And to the next person who asks me this ridiculous question…..

She is me. She is you.

How do you respond when people ask you this question?

Embrace your life!

Day 19~ 5 Blogs I read on a daily basis

21 Mar

blog quoteIt’s day 21 and I’m a little behind the eight ball. My life has been so crazy I haven’t had a chance to even enjoy being on my computer. For day 19, I’m supposed to list 5 blogs that I read on a daily basis. I have to admit, I don’t have to time to even check my email throughout the day if I’m lucky, let alone read my favorite blogs. But I will say, when I do come home and finally relax (after attending a meeting, grad class or tutoring) I have some favorite sites that do go to daily.

The Single Woman ~ Seriously one of my favorite sites. Mandy Hale started this blog a little over three years ago and has become a huge inspiration to us “single” women, or women in general. My friends tell me I am the RI version of her and I take that as a compliment. Her daily quotes and blog posts are straight forward, witty, wise and inspirational. She gives me hope and reminds me that I am good enough, to never settle for anything less than the best for you and believe that there is love out there for everyone.

LaurenConrad.com ~ I love getting my daily emails from Lauren’s site and reading her blog on the latest fashion trends. I also have her on my Google homepage so I have easy access to it.

Karen Salmansohn ~ I love going to this blog for daily quotes and inspiration. It’s a site for people who like “self-help” books and articles but don’t want to be caught in that aisle at Barnes & Noble.

The Mod Mommy ~ This is my sister’s blog. I also have this on my Google homepage. Just because she’s my sister and the fact that I’m not a mom, it’s a blog that I love to read. She has great tips for moms (which I pass on to my friends who are), recipes and more.

Love the Leap ~ This is my friend Erica’s blog. She has great tips and advice on how to start getting healthy or learning how to stay healthy with recipes, workouts, and tips. She was my motivator and continues to be for me. I needed a push to begin working out again and I owe it all to her.

What are some blogs you like to read?

I am always looking for new ones to check out!

Valentine’s Day….not just for couples

9 Feb

“It is in the letting go that we become who we are meant to be.”~The Single Woman

A great quote by one of my favorite women. I have to admit, without her blog and Twitter page full of fabulous quotes, I would have never gotten by this past year and counting. And, I wouldn’t have become as determined as I’ve become if it wasn’t for her woman empowerment that she makes you feel when you read anything by her. She is the reason why I felt I needed to be honest to single women out there and write something about that dreadful day so many of us aren’t a fan of (and yes, I’ll openly admit, I’m not a huge fan of this day)…. ~Valentine’s Day.

Here’s what I want us to do ladies, I want us to not be dreading this day, I want us to really and truly embrace it and not feel threatened by it. Just because we may not have someone who we are in a committed relationship with, that doesn’t mean we don’t have people in our life who don’t love us. Look around you. On that very day, I want you to stop and take a minute or two, whether it be on your commute, coffee/lunch break, or those quick brief daydreaming moments we hardy ever get, and think about where you were last year and remember how far you’ve come. Remember the people in your life at that moment, who truly love you for you (yes furry friends count). We must remember that Valentine’s Day is not just for couples. It should be a day that we learn to love and respect ourselves once again. It’s also a day that we can reflect upon and remember how far and strong we’ve become.

Now I know, all women have gone through heartache at one time or another and we all know it’s not easy. However, what we forget about is, how in the end of this heartache, we always turn out to be that fabulous woman we once were prior to the heartache. The woman who loved to laugh, smile, and feel confident and independent. Through out the “process” we must remind ourselves that WE are worth it, and WE do deserve happiness and love. But before any of it can happen again, we must learn to let go. We must learn to find ourselves again and remember what made us who we are. And what’s so great about this, is that you might even find something out about yourself that you didn’t even know.

I want you to pledge that on this Valentine’s Day, don’t feel it’s just for couples because it’s not, do something extra special for yourself. Go and buy that fabulous find you’ve been eyeing, or that small piece of jewlery you’ve always wanted (don’t wait for someone to buy it, spoil yourself, damn it!), or grab some girlfriends and go and treat yourselves to a delicious dinner. Just promise me that you will do something fabulous for yourself, because you know what, you don’t need anyone to do it for you and/or remind you. You reminding yourself should be good enough. Mantra: YOU ARE FABULOUS!

I hope this piece helps to be a reminder to any of you who may find yourself ‘alone’ on Valentine’s Day; you are NOT alone. You will always have your family, close friends and most importantly your beautiful, smart, loving, kind and talented SELF. Once you fall in love with this person, you will find and fall in love again.
