Amazing quotes

21 May

Confucius quote

There are times in my job that I wonder if I have made my point or not. During my lesson of teaching Confucius, I had the students get into groups and create their own Confucius “style” quotes. We had spent a lot of time discussing his quotes, and every morning I had a different one on the whiteboard. I have to say, I am beyond impressed and proud of my students with what they have come up with.

Here they are for you to enjoy! It’s crazy how a quote from a child can make you stop and think.

Day 20~ Yes, I do collect things

21 Mar

For anyone who is close to me or even has been to my house knows what I collect. I am obsessed with anything that has quotes on it, any picture of a flower and I could literally buy picture frames every time I step foot into a store. These are things that make me happy and smile on a daily basis. Every time I go shopping with my mom (usually our Saturday ritual) she tells me no more buying of these things. She feels I have enough. I on the other hand disagree. Which isn’t a surprise. Aren’t mothers and daughters not supposed to always see eye to eye?

Ps. Top right is an art piece I did my senior year of high school

One of the few pictures I have of my own hanging in my house.

P.P.S. Top right of this frame are two sheets of paper that have daily devotions/quotes on them that I printed out 3 years ago.

I had received them in a new year’s day email and I have been reading them daily ever since.

What do you collect??

Day 19~ 5 Blogs I read on a daily basis

21 Mar

blog quoteIt’s day 21 and I’m a little behind the eight ball. My life has been so crazy I haven’t had a chance to even enjoy being on my computer. For day 19, I’m supposed to list 5 blogs that I read on a daily basis. I have to admit, I don’t have to time to even check my email throughout the day if I’m lucky, let alone read my favorite blogs. But I will say, when I do come home and finally relax (after attending a meeting, grad class or tutoring) I have some favorite sites that do go to daily.

The Single Woman ~ Seriously one of my favorite sites. Mandy Hale started this blog a little over three years ago and has become a huge inspiration to us “single” women, or women in general. My friends tell me I am the RI version of her and I take that as a compliment. Her daily quotes and blog posts are straight forward, witty, wise and inspirational. She gives me hope and reminds me that I am good enough, to never settle for anything less than the best for you and believe that there is love out there for everyone.

LaurenConrad.com ~ I love getting my daily emails from Lauren’s site and reading her blog on the latest fashion trends. I also have her on my Google homepage so I have easy access to it.

Karen Salmansohn ~ I love going to this blog for daily quotes and inspiration. It’s a site for people who like “self-help” books and articles but don’t want to be caught in that aisle at Barnes & Noble.

The Mod Mommy ~ This is my sister’s blog. I also have this on my Google homepage. Just because she’s my sister and the fact that I’m not a mom, it’s a blog that I love to read. She has great tips for moms (which I pass on to my friends who are), recipes and more.

Love the Leap ~ This is my friend Erica’s blog. She has great tips and advice on how to start getting healthy or learning how to stay healthy with recipes, workouts, and tips. She was my motivator and continues to be for me. I needed a push to begin working out again and I owe it all to her.

What are some blogs you like to read?

I am always looking for new ones to check out!

Day 16~ My biggest accomplishment

17 Mar

greatest-accomplishment

Day 16 is asking us to talk about our biggest accomplishment. All of the other posts I’ve read on this one has to do with their children, families, etc. Unfortunately I haven’t had the chance to have those things yet so my biggest accomplishment is a bit different.

Having grown up with my parents divorced, I feel my biggest accomplishment is turning out a healthy normal teenager and going off to college. Putting myself through college (pretty much by working many jobs and taking out loans) but also graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Special Education. I then went on to live on my own (well with my sister), substitute teach for a year (making only $75/day), and then finally getting hired. Within the next four years I was able to save some money while paying for everything I needed, and purchase my own home and live there on my own. Six years later, with the economy being the way it is, I’ve been able to keep my home, have a stable job, and live a fabulous life, all while being the sole provider. There are many women (and maybe some men) who can’t or don’t know how to live on their own. I’m very proud of myself. I am currently in school again to further my degree for my job and I am continuing to pursue my dream of publishing my first children’s book. Once this happens, this will be another big accomplishment for me. My ultimate accomplishment I am most looking forward to is becoming a mom. Until then, I am enjoying making my life better for me and appreciating all of the other little accomplishments I continue to do each and every day. Remember “Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.”
