A High School Memory~Day 3

4 Oct

high-school

Ahhhh high school…..the good ol’ days. I know some people wouldn’t agree with me but I absolutely loved high school. I was fortunate enough to be surrounded by great friends and people who would be part of some of my most amazing memories.

Day 3 in the October Daily Blog Challenge asks us to tell about a high school memory you will never forget. Honestly, this is very hard for me since I have so many.

Having been part of an amazing dance team that was a small part of the school’s band (yes, band was the cool thing to be part of in my school ;) )I was able to travel to places that I would never have dreamt of going to at such a young age.

One of my favorite memories is traveling to Hawaii with the band in high school when I was in tenth grade. The reason we were even allowed to travel to Hawaii was to perform in a parade in Waikiki. How many can say that they did that? Back in 1994, traveling across the country on an airplane with 100 kids was not a scary thought in most parents minds. We were still living in an innocent world and having harm being done to us while we traveled wasn’t even an option.

I remember the flight being really long to LAX and when we arrived there to catch our connecting flight, we were like that scene in Home Alone when they are running through the airport to catch their plane. This was definitely a sight to be seen. 100 kids, chaperones and my band director all trying to get to the next flight. Definitely funny now, but I’m sure back then the adults didn’t find it funny.

I remember when we landed in Oahu, the airport was absolutely beautiful. We were greeted with our very own lei and it just seemed like paradise. There were palm trees everywhere and it was sunny and warm. I can still visually see us waiting outside this beautiful airport, soaking in the sunshine, before we had to get our ride to the hotel.

It’s crazy how 19 years is such a long time ago but yet I can still feel like it was just half that amount of time. I remember in the early mornings, we would wake up and Waikiki would be so quiet, peaceful and clean. I can remember my girlfriends and I being silly and taking pictures inside (or actually outside) their Rainforest Cafe restaurant (or basically anywhere we could pose Lol). We thought it was so cool to have a ‘yard’ at a restaurant where you could hang out outside.

Being able to see Pearly Harbor was really cool, we traveled to the Dole Plantation and I remember people buying pineapples to be shipped home. As a beach lover I got see the North Shore and Waimea Bay and appreciate the ocean even more.

The last thing I’ll mention is that on the last day, a few of my friends and I decided to do a Hawaiian tradition. They say that if you throw your lei back into the water, that means you’ll be back someday (or so they told us). Well, universe, I hope that tradition is right. I would love to go back as an adult and see if it’s how I remember it (in some sense).

I could honestly go on and on. All I have to say is that this trip will forever be a memory I will never forget. I was fortunate enough to have traveled to more places in my high school career but how many can say that they traveled to Hawaii with their high school.

What’s a memory you have of your high school that you will never forget??

Day 29~ Summer, summer, summer, summer time

29 Mar

*sigh* I think I’ve finally caught up. Being on vacation and trying to keep up is harder than I thought but I finally got some down time to sit and blog (while watching Fashion Star).

So day 29′s challenge is for us to tell our favorite time of the year and why. This is a no brainer. Summer. For as long as I can remember, probably going back 27 years or so, the summer time has been my favorite time of the year. I look forward to days and nights at the beach, cookouts, being tanned, traveling, concerts, late nights and being a teacher I kind of have no work (I still tutor and teach summer school but it’s better than 5x a week 8 hours a day).

My birthday is at the end of the summer but I still look forward to it. It usually marks the summer being over but on August 1, I begin my month-long celebration. This summer I will traveling to California and Vegas, attending Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z’s concert, and Country Music Festival. Throw in a week-long fashion week and the start of school and that’s only part of my summer.

I can’t wait to see what this summer brings!!!

Day 27~ 3 Online Friends I’ve Never Met In Real Life But Hope To Someday

29 Mar

For this challenge, we have to name three online friends that we would hope to meet some day.

One person that I definitely have on my list is Mandy Hale, aka The Single Woman. She lives in Tennessee and I swear she is my twin. We have so much in common, it’s crazy. I know that if I lived near her, I would probably have many lunch dates and girly nights with her.

I know one thing we both believe in and had the privilege of doing, was having our photo taken by Adam Bouska for the NOH8 campaign.

Another online friend I’d like to meet is one of my Glambassador girl friends~ Karen. You can also follow her blog, Glam Karen. We are both teachers, love for fashion and a Glambassador for Glamour Magazine.

Maybe I’ll think of someone soon.

Day 18~ Where are you happiest?

18 Mar

Today’s challenge is probably one of the easiest for me. When someone asks me “where or what makes you happy” I immediately think of spending time with my family and friends and also my favorite place on Earth, the beach.

This is Narragansett Beach. I absolutely love being here.

Where are you happiest?
