Day 17~ Why & when did I start blogging?

17 Mar

blog

Today’s challenge is about my blog~ the why and the when. It’s amazing to me to see how my blog has completely transformed in two years. Not to mention the traffic has nearly tripled in just this short amount of time. I’m loving every single moment of it!

It all started back in January of 2011, when I was chosen by Glamour Magazine to be Rhode Island’s Glambassador, one of the 200+ most influential women across America to represent their state with the latest trends in the fashion and beauty industry. To be able to start and keep my new journey, one of the requirements was to have a blog or start one. I had to start one. We all know I’ve had a love for writing, so starting a blog seemed like it was perfect for me and I couldn’t believe I hadn’t thought of it sooner! So one Sunday night, my sister and I came up with the name and idea. The basic idea of it was to promote fashion and beauty trends as well as any events that were going to be happening in Rhode Island. My first post was on January 10 and it was a Ulta coupon and another blog titled “Steal this gorgeous look”. My posts were short and mostly quick snippets of the latest trends and any of my reviews I had to post for Glamour. I didn’t really put much heart into it. Meaning, I wasn’t making it personal. I never really thought about it until one day when I needed an outlet. I always found myself opening up Word to draft what was on my mind, very Carrie Bradshaw, because I found it much easier for me to type rather than write. So my first post was on March 3, 2011 titled “Glamour-ous”. It was the first time I actually blogged about my life rather than a just a quick review. I then realized how easy it was for me and I truly enjoyed it. I then decided to continue to try and open up a little bit more and I found that many people could relate to me and on the flip side I also felt better. My tab “Just a little thought…” was created and now holds many of my thoughts and feelings.

I am beyond grateful for Glamour giving me the opportunity to begin this new wonderful journey two years ago, (and I am still very grateful to be the one and only Glambassador for RI). This blog has opened many doors and opportunities for me and I am very excited to see where it takes me.

Day 7~ My Dream Job

7 Mar

dream-job

My dream job. Where do I even begin. All my life I wanted to be a teacher. But also during this lifetime I always have had a love for writing and drawing or shall we just call it, the arts.

When I was growing up, I was that little girl who would help the teacher at the end of the school year and take home all of those unused dittos and ‘play’ school with them over the summer pretending to be the teacher. I also started to be around children a lot and take care of them at the age of 12. From that point on, I had many teachers have a huge impact on me and made me realize that this is what I wanted to do. I also during this time, was an art major in high school and also enrolled in an early enrollment writing class my senior year. I knew at an early age what my loves were~writing, teaching and art. I created many beautiful pieces throughout these years, which I now have hanging in my house, and I created a children’s book.

Now flashback to senior year in the year of 1996-1997, and for any of you who were around at this time, know that there weren’t many options like there are today if you were going to college. Girls either became teachers if they went to school or something to do with children, or you went into a field of Business or Communications. There was no social media, marketing wasn’t really pushed as much as it is today and basically anything having to do with computers was more in the IT field rather than the possibilities being endless like they are today. So naturally I applied to a state college, against my will, and lived at school to become a teacher. I don’t regret the decision. I made wonderful friends, whom I am like sisters with til this day, and I had some of the best experiences ever. However, I always felt like I should be doing something else.

Eleven years later, I am a teacher. I love what I do and I am very good at it. But I still feel like something is missing. I have a knack for organizing events and project managing but I also know I have a talent for writing. Being given the opportunity three years ago to start my own blog, has opened many doors for me and I couldn’t be any more grateful than I already am.

So without further ado, here are my dream jobs:

To become a professional blogger for a magazine.

To work in the fashion industry.

To become a children’s author.

Lucky for me, I have been fortunate enough to be able to do some of these things on the side, and my career as a teacher has allowed me to have the time to be able to do these things.

Currently as this moment, I have this fabulous blog thanks to Glamour Magazine for choosing me three years ago to be a Glambassador for my home state, I work for StyleWeek Northeast as the Director of Operations and remember that children’s book that I wrote in high school, I am in the process of editing it and I will be sending it off to be published this year.

Every day I put out positive thoughts and vibes that one day, my dream jobs will become a reality.

What would be your dream job?

Day 5: Favorite Movies You Never Get Sick Of Watching

5 Mar

Phew! I’m finally caught up to day 5. Favorite movies. We all have those movies that we can watch over and over. Those go to movies when we’re home sick, it’s a snowy/rainy night, or we want to have a simple Friday or Saturday evening to ourselves and just want to get lost in a movie that we love (and can practically recite over and over again).

I for one am a total girl. I love rom coms and can’t get enough of them. Don’t get me wrong, I like a good serious movie every now and then, but let’s be honest, I’m a single gal and I would rather watch Kate Hudson over Denzel Washington.

So here are my Top 5 in no particular order:

#1~ The Sweetest Thing I could seriously recite this whole movie. I absolutely love it. Cameron Diaz and Christina Applegate are hilarious and I can honestly say I can relate to this movie.

The Sweetest Thing

#2~ The Holiday Do I even need to explain why this is one of my favorites?? If you haven’t seen it, you must!!

#3 How to Lose a Guy in 10 days ~ I love anything with Kate Hudson (and let’s be honest, who doesn’t love Matthew McConaughey)

How to lose a guy in 10 days

#4 The Break- Up Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn. Two of my favorites in one movie. Enough said.

the break up

#5 Sweet Home Alabama Reese Witherspoon. Period. This movie is hands down, one of my all time favorites.

What are some of your favorite movies?? Did any of them make my top 5?

Day 3: What Makes you Happy?

5 Mar

What makes me happy??? Hmmm, at this very moment, I actually have to think of things that make me happy. I’ve been in what we call a funk lately, and this weather is not helping, I need to snap out of it.

Trying to catch up with the March blog challenge, is actually making me stop and reflect on my life. So I must admit, I’m glad that day 3 is making me stop and think about what makes me happy.

After pondering for a couple of minutes, my brain started to come around and I was able to compile this list. I have a feeling that I could’ve kept going, but I’ll give you a sneak peak at my top 10.

~my niece and nephew without a doubt make me happy

~sunshine and warmth

~the ocean (for my Rhode Islanders you’ll appreciate this, the minute my car ‘hits’ the tower on Rt.4, my body becomes at ease)

~ watching Pretty Little Liars on Tuesday night

~ reading my magazines

~ my ‘nephew’ Riley. I miss having a dog so much

~ my kids at school. They truly make me smile

~ having a good workout

~ spending time with my family. They mean the world to me.

~ being healthy

What are some things that make you happy?
